Research Checkpoint — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 20 October 2026.
Research Checkpoint is a macOS research organizer with an optional Safari extension and desktop widget. The developer is Georgii Dolganov. For privacy questions, contact dolganov.g@gmail.com.
Information the app handles
You may create projects, links, notes, decisions, questions, evidence, checkpoints, and next steps. These records are stored locally on your Mac in the app's container or the shared container used by the app, Safari extension, and widget. The app does not require an account or send your research to a developer-operated server.
When you enable the Safari extension, grant a site permission, and start a research session, the extension can record the URL, page title, visit time, tab/window identifiers, and optional reading position for eligible pages. You can exclude sites. The extension does not save page text, form entries, passwords, cookies, or network headers. It does not intentionally capture private-browsing tabs. Some event and command data may be held temporarily in local extension storage while the app and extension exchange it.
The widget reads project summary information from the shared local container. If you export a project, the export file is saved where you choose. Import and export are user-initiated; you control where those files go. JSON export excludes browser event logs, tab IDs, session IDs, form contents, and cookies.
Purchases and third parties
Optional Pro purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. The app reads verified purchase rights to unlock Pro. The developer does not receive your payment-card details through the app. Apple may process purchase and account information under its own privacy policy. Websites you visit in Safari may process data independently under their own policies.
The current app has no developer-operated account, cloud sync, advertising SDK, or analytics SDK. We do not sell research data or use it for advertising.
Your choices and retention
Safari website access is optional and managed in Safari. You can add links manually without it. You can stop a research session, exclude sites, delete projects in the app, and export your work. Research records stay on your Mac until you delete them or remove the app and its data. Exported files remain wherever you saved them until you delete them separately. Apple retains purchase records according to its own policies.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app changes. The effective date above will be updated. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to dolganov.g@gmail.com.
