Check Unread Hotmail and Outlook Email in Chrome

Choose a toolbar check or a full mailbox

An extension panel and the Outlook web app serve different tasks. The extension does not replace your mailbox or Microsoft account security.

• Use the toolbar for a quick unread-mail check while working on another page.
• Open Outlook when you need search, attachments or mailbox management.
• Check the publisher and requested permissions on the official store listing before installation.

Set up a first check

Use the official Chrome Web Store link on the product page. Avoid look-alike download sites.

1. Add Mail Client for Hotmail to Chrome.
2. Sign in on the Outlook website with the intended account.
3. Open the extension panel from Chrome’s toolbar; pin it if you want easier access.
4. Compare the unread messages with the same account in Outlook.

If unread messages do not update

Start with the mailbox session. An extension cannot show the intended account if the underlying website is signed out or displaying another account.

1. Open Outlook directly and check that mail loads normally.
2. Confirm the account; an unread count for another mailbox can look like a stale result.
3. Reload the mailbox, then reopen the extension panel.
4. Review site permissions and any browser setting that prevents the extension from accessing the required page.
5. If it still fails, contact support with your Chrome version and a redacted screenshot. Never send passwords, cookies or sign-in codes.

Keep the mailbox private

An unread preview can expose subject lines on a shared screen. Close the panel before screen sharing, and sign out on shared computers.

• Do not enter Microsoft credentials into a third-party support form.
